The following holidays in Poland are both national and church ones. While some of them are on fixed dates, others are movable, so please make sure to check them in advance. Bear in mind that on such days the banks, institutions and most of the shops will be closed.

 

1st January: New Year's Day.

 

6th January: Epiphany commemorates the arrival of the Three Wise Men to visit the infant Jesus.

 

*March/April: Easter Sunday/Monday (Wielkanoc) celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a significant Christian holiday in Poland, with various traditions and customs.

 

3rd May: Constitution Day honours the signing of the Constitution of May 3, 1791, which is considered one of the first modern constitutions in Europe.

 

*June: Corpus Christi is always celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. 

 

15th August: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Day.

 

1st of November: All Saints' Day is a holy day of obligation for Catholics and it is a time for reflection, rememberance, and celebration of the lives of the saints. On this day people visit cemeteries to pray for their deceased loved ones.

 

11th November:  Independence Day commemorates the anniversary of the restoration of Poland's sovereignty. It signifies the end of World War I and the re-emergence of an independent Polish state in 1918. This national holiday is observed with patriotic events, parades and ceremonies.

 

25th and 26th December: the first and second day of Christmas celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
